On-Line Analytical Processing” (OLAP) also known as Multi Dimensional Analysis is a category of software technology that enables managers and executives to gain insight into data through fast, consistent, interactive access to a wide variety of possible views of information that has been transformed from raw data to reflect the real dimensionality of the enterprise as understood by the user.

Data is extracted from your core business applications and placed into a data warehouse/repository. Once the data is in the warehouse it is configured into an OLAP cube to meet the end users analysis and reporting needs.  An OLAP cube can be accessed directly with Microsoft Excel 2000 or higher.
